The Real Crisis ...
The British Strategic Review has just published a paper which shows the potential impact of the Scottish Executive's National Conversation on the thinking on constitutional matters in the United Kingdom.
This timely paper is entitled "The Real Crisis is already here" and it is downloadable as a pdf file and explains the emerging relationship between the UK Constitutional settlement and that of Scotland.
However, a complicating factor for both the United Kingdom and Scotland is the unholy mess only just emerging in Europe concerning the politicization of the European Courts and most assembly decision-making. A pervasive corruption of justice and increase in political party cash diplomacy has arisen as a result of the inept management of the last two European Union enlargements on the part of the European Commission. Specifically the sources of corruption are the judiciary and the politicians from the old one-party state systems (some 10 countries) and whose arbitrary and bad habits have not changed since joining the European Union.
The implications for the United Kingdom and Scotland are extremely serious because in reality governments cannot protect either themselves nor the people because European Court decisions have no appeal. This crisis is unique since there are no provisions in Europe to handle such a crisis. The paper suggests that the United Kingdom needs to organize a unliateral assessment. Political parties are criticised for having permitted this drift and the Conservatives and the Labour party are accused of having misled the public for some 30 years by excluding them from decisions involving Europe and thereby never exposing the people to the full facts.
