British institutions not fit for purpose
Undermining the freedom of the people of Britain
Many are making light of the fact that an American photographer was taking pictures of the Queen in robes of State and who suggested things might look better without part of the outfit. The Queen, apparently, asked, "What do you think this is?" in the sense, it would seem, that she was not sitting in a mix and match combo but rather was wearing something which comes as a package of formal representation. So the Queen's reaction was probably completely justified.
Someone representing the BBC channel responsible for organizing the filming of the photo-shoot, a Peter Fincham, admitted on Newsnight (12th July 2007) that the BBC had shown journalists a film clip which misrepresented the actions of the Queen by giving the impression that, after this exchange with the photographer, the Queen had left the set because she was upset. In fact this representation was a manipulation of the true facts by someone having inverted the time sequence of scenes and therefore creating a representation which conveyed a lie; few would be so stupid as to imagine this had not been done without intent. In legal parlance someone had knowingly misrepresented the facts. The quality control at BBC is so bad that the person representing the channel said they had not checked this film. Since this concerned the Head of State this is an amazing admission. Completely ingenuously the same person stated that the BBC had not broadcast this but had only shown this to a "private" meeting of journalists. The job of journalists is to broadcast what they see and hear so for a BBC manager to make such a ridiculous statement shows complete incompetence.
The Times Online, in spite of the fact that most online media had corrected the mistake and covered the fact that the BBC had apologised to the Queen, early on 12th July, continued the misrepresentation by broadcasting a misleading article based on the original lie, worldwide, beyond the end of the day (12th July 2007); pretty bad quality control there too.
Irresponsibility of institutions and leaders so-called
The British media, and some foreign-owned media such as The Times, seem to have a sick fascination with trying to belittle the British Sovereign. The British political parties have also contributed to this process by doing all they can to reduce the independence of the Sovereign in representing the people so as to enhance their own powers. Constitionally the political parties have gradually worked to undermine an independent representation for the people by the Sovereign of the country and this erodes our fundamental freedoms. They insist that most things the Queen decides should follow "consultation with her ministers". The right to petition the Queen has degenerated into a cynical process where the response comes from the relevant government department in the form of a cut and stuck letter to the person who sent in the petition. The Queen is not expected to make comments of a politial nature; she is censored. The main victim of this process is the state of individual freedom of the people of Britain.
A growing tyranny
Rather than gawk and snigger at the latest half-truths put out by people whose drive and motivation seems to come from some quite serious psychological inferiority complexes and ignorance of constitution, the people of Britain need to reflect a little more on the real gravity of permitting the BBC and Times Online misrepresent the actions of our non-political and independent representative of the people. This free-for-all competition to insult the Head of State is an uncouth shabbiness which is not only unfair to the Queen but it makes little of the people of the country at the same time. Is this behaviour of the BBC the outcome of no matter what they do the people of Britain will be forced to pay, in collectivist fashion, the BBC tithe in the form of a license fee? The politicians of this country slavishly follow the orders of tiny factional parties whose total membership is less than 1% of the electorate. These people wish to embody the representation of the people of this country on the basis of only 19% of the electorate voting for the government party. Our freedoms, step by step, fall under the arbitrary force of decisions of unrepresentative political parties who pay lip service to "respect agendas" but whose only factional interest is the wresting of power from their rivals. They serve themselves over country as they hide in the shadows, silently, looking on as the media dance and fingerpoint. This peculiar anarchy is for some reason tolerated by the people of this country as normal and acceptable behaviour. Many permit themselves to be seduced by a crude media whose bosses proclaim that they are "giving people what they want" in encouraging jeering and poking fun at the only constitutional representation of the people of this country, the Queen.
The BBC, most media and even the politicians weaken this vital representation of the people by attacking and diminishing the Queen. This destabilizing erosion of representation undermines the social comity of the nation and yet this irresponsible cabal makes no move to uphold constitutional provisions to defend the weakening status of indivdual freedom of the people of these Isles. This self-satisfied behaviour on the part of the media and the desire of politicians not to become involved in a constitutional issue but rather continue in their self-serving manner is the sign of a failure to understand what is important; a crisis in values, a growing tyranny.
This is not some royalist plea or an attempt to turn the clock back. It is a plea for people to question this irresponsible behaviour on the parts of institutions such as the BBC, media and political parties who vie to secure power within their own "constituencies" in a ways which are destructive to the British way of life and which undermine the individual freedom and future security of the people.
