A European constitution already exists in the extant treaties and effective European Law which is supreme to national law.

The current quibbling as to whether there is or is not a constitution is absurd.

The main problem is that the government wants to sustain an unacceptable convention of not allowing the people of this country to have any say in the increased force of European Law over our governance, corporate interests and the freedom of individuals.

The arguments over whether there should be a referendum over this latest treaty which contains most of the former draft European Constitution is symptomatic of a far greater problem.

The people of this country are becoming aware of declining security with which they can defend their freedom resulting from the separation of interests of the people from those of political parties.

Our politicians have become increasingly arrogant and removed from the people.

European courts are jury-less and most European judges are political party appointees who fail the most rudimentary tests of impartiality.

This situation has rapidly deteriorated as a result of the last two rushed and largely incompetent enlargements of the European Union.

Now, some 37% of the judiciary in the European Courts are from former one party states where judges worked closely with politicians, police and intelligence agencies to fix what and whom they chose.

Just because such countries are now "full members" of the European Union does not mean that bad habits developed over some 60 years have somehow evapourated.

In spite of "re-branding" of parties the political party bosses and the politicians remain the same class of arrogant individuals who are of their parties and not of the people.

They have very little notion of constituency responsibilities and have little time for the details of participatory democracy.

The electorate is viewed largely as a rabble whose purpose is to serve as electoral fodder at the time of elections

Politicians in their desire for power seek to lead and in this process place the interests of party over those of the people.

The concept of service to an electorate is becoming an alien concept with arrogance and an ability to mislead being confused with charisma.

In reality the so-called European democratic deficit has increased during the last five years and has been reduced nowhere.

The influence of such scurrilous and irresponsible political outlooks based upon self-interest is increasing in European voting assemblies and through the increasing arbitrariness of judicial decisions.

As the influence of Europe increases, especially in the form of Legal force over national judiciaries, individual freedoms will become increasingly marginalised.

In this brave new "Enlarged Europe", any Briton can be arrested and sent to a European country on the basis of fabricated evidence produced by corrupt politicians pressuring judges and the police - presumption of innocence is effectively meaningless.

Codified European law proscribes the role of the community conscience, in the form of a jury, from defending individuals against arbitrary decisions.

Small panels of judges take decisions on the basis of majority vote and there are no published dissenting opinions.

As a result, there is no notion of the concept of decisions needing to be beyond a reasonable doubt.

English legal tradition, set in the Common Law, has been a source of inspiration for many democracies who recognise the imperative of promoting and defending individual freedom through a practical and humane means; it must be defended.

The politicians of Britain's main political parties have consistently supported the European legal agenda which increasingly exposes the population of Britain to arbitrary political and legal decisions.

One has to ask who is it that these politicians and political parties serve?

Why do they continue to seek to prevent the people of Brtain from participating directly in European decisions?

The question is not whether or not the Prime Minister "thinks" such matters are best handled in Parliament where his government with about 19% of the support of the electorate has an absurd majority.

No, the question is that the 81% whom the government does not represent wish to be provided with the simple courtesy of consideration of their views on a matter of such national importance.

The Prime Minsister cannot retreat into assertions that there is a need for party discipline in carrying out "their" mandate when his party has a membership of less than 0.5% of the electorate and any mandate represents a desire to act in opposition to the wishes of 81% of the British electorate.

The low popularity of British political parties should be a matter of shame and at least a motivation for politicians to act in a more humble and rational manner in attempting to ensure that they reflect the interests of all.

This, unforntunately, is not what we see. We only see the arrogance of politicians punctuating everything they say in the name of their political party. This charade continues to their discredit and as an enduring insult to the people of Britain.

The priorities of the people, politicians need to understand, are not the status of politicians nor of their tiny parties but rather the desire that their preferences, as a reflection of their individual freedom of expression, be taken into account.

The supreme conclusion one has to draw from the currently unacceptable state of affairs is that our political parties are not interested in the free expression of the people of Britain. Since in Britain, of all countries, this is the essence of life, it is clear that the relevance of political parties to the people needs to be seriously questioned.
